Forge-X, the community building arm of production company Cineforge Media located in Phoenix, AZ, reached out to me with one goal in mind – to live stream the launch of their new interview show “Forged” at this year’s GAME ON EXPO in Phoenix, AZ. With a prohibitive price tag on internet access through the venue, Forge-X wanted to explore other live streaming solutions and develop a strategy for distribution that would make the launch successful. They called me.

Forge-X hosts experiential events, jams, festivals, and pop up events around the country. The show “Forged” centers around live interviews with influencers in the creative space and poses the question ‘What forged your path to where you are now?’ The producers were set with the location at GAME ON EXPO -- a terrific three-camera set up using SlingStudio and a gorgeous LED Wall for the backdrop. The annual EXPO offered a unique opportunity to interview leaders in eSports and gaming, including celebrity voice-actors, studio executives and developers.

With the push toward LCopy of IMG_0115IVE content and its ability to draw viewers, I wanted to bring Forge-X the best solution possible to take advantage of both the set-up and drive viewership even more with IRL-styled (In Real Life) segments hosted by local influencers roaming the show floor.

LiveU Solo was the perfect solution. It delivered a strong bonded cellular signal throughout the three-day expo, even during peak hours of attendance. It also integrated seamlessly with Switchboard Live, the reliable solution to a multiple destination live streaming strategy. With LiveU Solo and Switchboard Live, “Forged” streamed to not only Forge-X’s Facebook, but also multiple social media accounts of guests and GAME ON EXPO organizers. We even live streamed simultaneously to Twitch. Since content was delivered to personal and uniquely branded channels, fans could watch and interact in real-time.

The SlingStudio Console Production app switched between cameras while the LiveU Solo units provided the bandwidth to send the streams out to Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube via Switchboard Live.

Taking bandwidth concerns out of the equation

“The biggest challenge in live event production is always a stable connection to the internet. Often there is no connection available making live streaming nearly impossible. LiveU removed our concern about the internet situation at the venue and gave us the confidence that we’d be able to push out live content wherever we went.”

Incorporating multi-camera and IRL live streaming capabilities

SlingStudio opened the door to producing quality multi-camera interview shows, remote IRL segments and even direct game play. Switchboard Live enabled us to link to multiple social media accounts and drive traffic with custom hashtags. By developing a multiple destination live streaming strategy and joining the producing team on location, I was able to book high-profile guests anxious to be a part of a LIVE show with wide distribution. None of that would have been possible without LiveU Solo.

“The majority of people that walked by our booth and saw our production setup were quite amazed with what we were able to accomplish with such a small foot print.”
